Ru Di Fook Noodle Bar 如狄福 at Kota Damansara KL for Best Noodles
Ru Di Fook Noodle Bar 如狄福 is on the checklist during our trip to Kuala Lumpur. Located at Kota Damansara, it is about a good 30 minutes drive from Berjaya Times Square.
Ru Di Fook is quite the buzz in the scene lately. A hipster spot that serves modern Chinese cuisine with Japanese-inspired flavours, expect tasty signatures including mee (noodles) and ramen dishes. After all it is a noodle bar that specialises in noodles.
There are also sharing portions where you can get Light Bites such as the Yuzu BBQ Pork RM9.8 (s)/ RM16.8 (b), Fortune Wanton RM9.8 (6pcs)/RM15 (10pcs) and Fried Herby Spiced Wings RM19.80, and/or some stir fried vegetables and desserts to end the meal.
Drinks selection ranges from Hitachino Nest Beer, Juices, gourmet Tea to Mocktails and of course, their in-house speciality Cocktails.
Each noodle dish is paired with your choice of ingredients. There were so many options that had us indecisive for a while. Under the Mee Series, you can find Wanton Mee, Mushroom Mee, Minced Pork Meat Mee and RDF Roasted Pork Mee etc. And these are prepared using Hong Kong styled Egg Noodles and Chef’s special sauce.
Under the Chinese Ramen section, the pairings were more interesting with Duck Confit Mee RM20.8 and Soft Shell Crab Laksa RM27.80. The noodles appeared thicker and less springy. They were softer on the texture and together with the sauce, I could taste each strand lightly coated in the deliciousness.
These were so addictive that my friend slurped it all by herself.
The Duck Confit Mee also came with a bowl of wanton soup. My goodness, the soup was another notch better with its rich herbal taste.
We had the Wealthy Wanton RM9.8 (6pcs)/RM15 (10pcs) which was boiled pork wanton in a scallop soup. Comparing to the previous, this was relatively lighter in flavour. The pork wanton was much larger and meaty. I actually suggested adding some crunchy bits inside like water chestnut as it got rather one-dimensional after a while.
We had the RDF Roasted Pork RM9.8 (s)/RM16.8 (b) as a side instead, since we wouldn’t be able to stomach more food at the rate we were ordering!
The roasted pork had a pleasant crunch on the skin and the interlaying fats were soft. The chilli, especially, was well-loved by us.
Other small bites we had were the Kung Fu Mushroom RM10.8 and Namyu Zhayuk RM16.8 (b).
The plum aioli that came with the fried shimeji and oyster mushroom was too sweet to my liking. As a mushroom lover, I still enjoyed this dish and by the way, the portion was generous.
At first bite, I thought the Namyu Zhayuk could use more seasoning. It was until I dipped it into the black fungus puree that I was sold! The rich, earthy and umami taste would serve any fried food well.
I wasn’t aware Ru Di Fook serves Yakitori until I saw the menu on the table. It was also the first time I had seen Gula Melaka and Soy sauce mixed together as a dressing. We had the Pork and Gula Melaka Soy Yakitori RM8.5 to try and another portion of Curry Cauliflower and Cheese Sauce Rm7/120grams.
The pork was disappointingly tough BUT I thought the sauce was satisfying. I was used to having Yakitori with the overly sweet and/or savoury sauces and the Gula Melaka Soy was like a balance in between. That said, I dislike gula melaka yet this was acceptable for my tastebuds. Hmm.
Cocktails start from RM16.80 to RM22.80.
They were beautifully pictured in the menu, mostly sake-based and infused with florals and fruits.
Ru Di Fook also has a private room.
Ru Di Fook is a pleasant restaurant and bar, highly recommended for their noodles. At night, you can simply chill in with a fanfare of small bites to go along with your beer and sake-infused cocktails.
