Spice World Hot Pot – Matcha & Assam Chocolate Bubble Tea Broth

Spice World Hot Pot never fails to amaze with its quirky creations again. Remember how it all started with the beef-cladded Barbie doll to the Hello Kitty and Teddy Bear-shaped butter in your broth. Besides satisfying a human’s curiosity and fascination, it still makes you want to come back for the spicy mala soup and tender wagyu beef. Prices are comparable to the posh hot pot restaurants out there, but you can be assured of the quality ingredients used and relatively comfortable private seats.

Since my visit in May last year, this marks my second time back to Spice World Hot Pot. There are several new additions such as The Mermaid 美⼈鱼 $18.90 (a seafood version of Barbie with Red Tilapia slices rolled around a doll to form a mermaid), Bullish Day 牛气冲天 $36.90 (a mix of sliced beef, tripe and tongue) and traditional Handmade Beef Balls ⽜⾁丸 $15.90.

Making a permanent stay on the menu are the Matcha Milk Tea and Assam Milk Tea broth.

Order of the sweet broth comes with a set of sweet and savoury toppings like the taro, purple sweet potatoes, pumpkin, yam, coconut and fruit jellies.

It’s recommended to pair one of the sweet broth with the savoury signature Mala at $39.90.

Before the pot started to heat up, we were given bubble tea straws to drink the Matcha Milk Tea broth directly. If not, the staffs would scoop the portions into individual bowls for each diner to savour slowly. It tasted just like desserts, sweet, milky and creamy with hints of matcha flavour.

I also tried the Assam Milk Tea which was chocolatey and felt nicer.

As the pot boiled, the Matcha Milk Tea broth lost its matcha touch and became more milk-ish. It covered up the taste of the wagyu beef, which I thought should go better with the mala. Perhaps, seafood such as sliced fish and fish balls would accompany the matcha milk tea well.

Other new dishes include the sustainably sourced US scallops 秘制带子 $19.90, Bacon Enoki Wrap and Tender Milk Beef ⽜奶嫩牛肉 $15.90.

There is also free-flow sauces and fruits at the counter.

The place is perfect late night suppers and intimate dining too.
