SUN with MOON Aomori Fair delights with Fresh Seafood & Produce like Mutsu Bay Scallops, Apios & Aomori Apples

SUN with MOON‘s Aomori Fair is back for its second edition, including a series of new lineups from Aomori Prefecture’s best regional delicacies. Taking centre stage this season is the Apios Americana, a legume plant with edible tubers, also ranked as the world’s top three superfoods. Interestingly, it has a texture and flavour similar to boiled groundnut and sweet potato.

Available from 5 November 2019 to early January 2020, tuck into a feast of unrivalled seafood and rich produce from Aomori Prefecture at SUN with MOON.

Aomori Menu

Warm your belly with a brackish bowl of Shijimi Ramen $16.80 brimming with Yamato Shimiji clams, curly noodles, green onions, seaweed, bamboo shoots and a half-boiled egg.

Enjoy fresh seafood that thrives along the pristine waters of Mutsu Bay, Aomori Prefecture. The Mutsu Bay Hotate & Salmon Belly Teriyaki Kamameshi $21.80 and Mutsu Bay Hotate & Salmon Ringo Oroshi Nabe $23.80 comes highly recommended for their huge juicy scallops and succulent salmon.

The broth for the Japanese hotpot leans towards a delicate sweetness from the inclusion of grated apple and sukiyaki sauce.

Some highlights of the appetizers include:

Sujiko Avocado Salmon Oyako Roll $21.80: Salmon sushi roll stuffed with Aomori’s brined salmon roe sac

Apios Bacon Cream Cheese Yaki $13.80: Loaded with sliced Apios and streaky bacon covered in melty cream cheese and stretchy grilled cheese

Hirosaki Ika Menchi $12.80: Deep-fried minced squid, cabbage and carrot balls which are tender and juicy on the inside

Mutenka Yaki-Chikuwa Cheese Buta Roll Yaki $11.80: QQ texture of additive-free Aomori chikuwa fishcake wrapped in sliced pork and cheese

Butabara Steak with Kuro Ichigo Jam $18.80: Features tender slices of grilled pork belly steak with exclusive Aomori black strawberry sauce

Desserts are equally amazing with my personal favourite being the Aomori Chestnut Baumkuchen with Laci-Ice cream $10.80 which showcases the popular Japanese layered cake with chestnut flavour.

The other dessert that brings out the seasonality is the Tonami-ga-oka Farm Laci-Ice cream with Caramelised Apple Jam $6.80 which also uses the same low milk fat vanilla ice cream but slathered with a sweet, caramelised apple jam.

Relish in the sweetness of the Aomori apples with boozy concoctions such as the Ringoginny $9.80 and Ringo Highball $8.80, and non-alcoholic ones like the Ringo Float $6.80 and Apple Tea $5.80.
