林記麻辣臭豆腐, Taipei Ningxia Night Market – Duck Blood Mala Stinky Tofu and Fried Stinky Tofu

Ningxia Night Market 寧夏夜市 is one of Taipei’s busiest and most popular night markets. Among the many stalls here, 林記麻辣臭豆腐 Lin Ji Mala Stinky Tofu stands out for its duck blood offerings and stinky tofu.

The 40-year-old brand is situated in the middle of Ningxia Night Market, with seats available for dining in. At NT $75, there are choices like Duck Blood with Vermicelli / Intestine / Stinky Tofu / Enoki Mushroom as well as Stinky Tofu and Intestine with Stinky Tofu. Any extra ingredient requires a top-up of NT $20.

Another signature here is the Deep-fried Stinky Tofu NT $50 topped with vegetables. Besides the stinky tofu, there are also Oyster Mee Sua NT $50, Oyster Soup NT $50 and Prawn Soup NT $50.

Menu

The Mala Stinky Tofu NT $75 with an add-on of Enoki Mushroom NT $20 is served in a metal pot. The soup is not very spicy but more on the sweeter side. There is chilli available at every table that can be added to enhance the flavour. Nonetheless, I wish the soup by itself could have been more flavoursome. The tofu is firm and tasted alright.

The portion is quite big, including a whole tofu, cabbage and beancurd skin.

The crowd starts settling in even before night falls.
