Tan Ser Seng Herbs Restaurant – Claypot Turtle Soup and Ginseng Black Chicken

As one of Singapore’s longest-standing and traditional turtle soup restaurants, Tan Ser Seng Herbs Restaurant remains popular among locals for its nourishing herbal soups. The brand has been through three generations since its opening in 1946 by founder Tan Ah Sai.

Expect quality ingredients, flavoursome soups and of course, queues during peak hours.

The concise menu offers five traditional herbal broths and five homely sides which shouldn’t be skipped!

The signature Claypot Turtle Soup ($28 Small, $50 Medium, $78 Large) brims with ingredients like tender turtle meat and gelatinous skin. Some benefits include anti-ageing and immunity boost.

The Ginseng Black Chicken $15 features a whole black chicken with fall-off-the-bone meat in herbaceous broth. This is good for blood replenishment, especially for women.

The Abalone Collagen Fish Maw $30 is a luxurious treat for the skin due to its collagen-rich broth, elevated with a generous amount of cordyceps, and fish maw.

The sides are equally tasty with noteworthy ones like Handmade Prawn Roll $12, Aged Preserved Radish Omelette $10 and Jade Tofu $10.

The omelette has an interesting airy texture on the inside while it remains crisp on the exterior.

Another highlight is the tofu which is unlike the typical fried beancurd. Here, the tofu is topped with vegetables and fried. While the outside layer is crunchy, the tofu tastes smooth and light.

A Chinese staple, the Yam Rice $1.60 offers a hearty mouthfeel of warm rice grains, creamy yam and dried mushrooms.
