The Oyster Bank (Great World) – $2 Raw Oysters, Chunky Sashimi Bowls, Crispy Sushi & daily Happy Hour drinks

I can’t believe it has taken me this long to visit The Oyster Bank! We arrived on a Friday evening and there was already a queue. The Oyster Bank’s second outlet at Great World continues to offer Happy Shucking Hour for naked oysters at $2 each (Weekdays: 5 – 8PM and Weekends: 3 – 6PM), alongside Happy Hour tipples (from $12) between 12 – 9PM.

Here, the menu offers fresh oysters on ice, lovely sashimi rice bowls, Japanese nibbles and handcrafted cocktails.

Head for the dozen raw oysters, available in six different flavours like Bloody Mary, Grapefruit Ponzu and Sake Mignonette. The baked ones are equally satisfying and come with Mentaiko, Basil Cream, Chipotle Bourbon and Cheese.

The Oyster Bank’s rendition of sushi is quite unique, where torched scallop and salmon are perched over crispy rice blocks. Other small bites include El Hire (grilled dry stingray fin), Shrimp Cocktail and Mentaiko Fries (generously doused in creamy mentaiko sauce).

For hearty portions, choose from a range of rice bowls from the signature Aburi Salmon Don and Spicy Salmon Don to an upsized Barachirashi Don and Half-Half bowl comprising of Salmon and Scallop. There’s even an option to swop the rice for truffle-infused rice. The sashimi cubes are rather chunky too.

The Baked Camembert also make a good pairing with drinks. Served with a 125 gram of Camembert wheel, honey drizzle, walnuts and crackers, the heavenly combination would make my cheese-loving friends swoon.
