Tong Xin Ru Yi Traditional Hotpot – Homemade Soup Bases served with Ingredients upon order
Tong Xin Ru Yi Traditional Hotpot 同心如意传统铜火锅 moved from its former premises in Boat Quay to take up residence among smaller eateries and disco bars along Circular Road.
Featuring a wide range of beef cuts from all over the world, as well as uniquely sourced vegetables, Tong Xin Ru Yi also prides itself on its unconventional house-made signature soup bases. Its three shophouse-wide premises includes plenty of dining space, as well as art pieces and traditional artefacts interspersed throughout the white and wood-themed interior.
For starters, every soup base at Tong Xin Ru Yi is born from months of brainstorming, R&D, and repeated modifications of various ingredients to bring you bold and robust flavours. Crowd pleasers from Tong Xin Ru Yi’s repertoire of soup bases include Stewed Marinated Beef with Spicy Soup ($48), as well as two new entrants, the Golden Soup ($68), which can be enjoyed in your choice of either ingredient, Chicken or Frog. At the DIY sauce bar, you can create your own rendition of a perfect sauce for $2.
While the Stewed Marinated Beef with Spicy Soup is a sharp and intense broth that brings to mind spicy flavours from its use of Sichuan peppercorns and Sichuan chilli slices, the Golden Soup is mild in comparison.
Featuring a harmonious blend of nourishing, fall-off-the-bone chicken meat with a medley of black fungus, yam, pineapple chunks, sliced cucumber, and brown shimeji mushrooms, among others, this comforting soup makes for a substantial dish on its own.
Vegetarians can also indulge in the Vegetarian Spicy Soup ($16) and Corn with Tomato Soup ($16).
Diners at Tong Xin Ru Yi will be utterly spoiled by the plethora of premium hotpot ingredients that includes a bounty of of meats, seafood, mushrooms, greens, and noodles.
Choose from premium cuts of meat such as Premium Eight Second Beef ($24), Beef Tongue ($22) shaped to resemble a blooming rose, and Spicy Beef Cubes ($16). Featuring beef cuts from New Zealand, USA, Japan, and more, every meal at Tong Xin Ru Yi is akin to exploring the best of the world with your tastebuds! Delicate and flavourful, Tong Xin Ru Yi’s beef selections are best dipped in the boiling broth for 8 seconds before popping into your mouth.
Other drool-worthy selections from Tong Xin Ru Yi’s extensive menu include Hand Cut Mutton ($25) – fatty, hand-cut, and imported from New Zealand.
A unique choice would be the Black-Bone Chicken Slide ($20), which departs from the conventional method of serving in chunks. Slightly sweet and packed with antioxidants, this is highly recommended, although you may need to be on the lookout for small chunks of bones.
Moving on to the non-meat section, the Gracilaria ($6) appeals to diners with an acquired taste, or a sense of adventure. Yielding a seaweed-like texture, the vegetable is best enjoyed crunchy, as leaving it in the broth for too long turns it a little mushy.
Tofu selections include Fish Tofu ($14) and Vince Tofu ($8), the latter of which is delicately sliced to resemble a Chrysanthemum flower in water.
While the BBQ Garlic Oysters ($32), roasted over hot coals and drizzled with a house-made sauce of garlic, chilli, and chopped spring onions packs quite the punch.
All in all, Tong Xin Ru Yi makes for a promising addition to the central business district.
