Brasserie Fritz – Nice KL French Restaurant in WOLO Bukit Bintang

Located in the busiest part of Kuala Lumpur and coincidentally at the ground floor of WOLO Bukit Bintang hotel where I was staying at, I had been walking past this French restaurant multiple times before finally giving in to temptations.

Brasserie Fritz is owned by the same team behind some of KL’s best restaurants with a view –  Troika Sky Dining (Fuego, Strato, Cantaloupe) and Mr. Chew’s Chino Latino Bar (at the penthouse of WOLO).

Brasserie Fritz might look like a bakery from the outside but deeper in, the restaurant ventures out into a high ceiling hung with a majestic chandelier while the decor remains classic without losing its elegance. A bar counter is located near the entrance where you could sit by for Happy Hour and a tipple or two.

Service was prompt and attentive. The menu progressed from little plates to signature seafood delicacies, followed by soup, sandwiches, burgers and lastly, desserts.

The seafood counter is one of the highlights of Brasserie Fritz where you could get Pacific Oyster RM18 each, Hokkaido Scallop RM35, Steamed Crab RM30, Warm Tea Smoked Salmon RM48, Sea Bass Carpaccio RM30 and more. Can’t decide? The Grand Fritz Platter RM210 comes with a little of everything good for sharing.

The Bouillabaisse RM45 and Beef Tartare RM48 look really mouth-watering since I have a soft spot for both. Steak lovers can also get your meaty satisfaction from the Steak Fritz (grilled ribeye) RM98 and Steak Au Poivre (pepper rubbed striploin) RM95.

There is something for everyone here, and of course, the menu is designed for a bountiful spread on the table.

Some slices of warm bread were served with butter.

I opted for the Mussels A La Fritz RM48. The massive plate had at least 13-15 pieces of fresh black mussels laid in the puddle of mustard and tarragon broth. There’s also a handful of chopped Désirée potatoes and choucroute (french cabbage with salted meats).

I was really impressed with the broth. It was velvety smooth, creamy and I could pick out the subtle hints of the mustard which gave it depth. The mussels were cooked just nicely, plump and juicy in their half-opened shells. It’s worth it. Even the choucroute were tasty on their own but together with the broth, the salinity was more restrained, to which I preferred the later.

I spotted the table beside me having the Crème Brûlée RM28 flambéed with cognac. What a show and little did I know that the Rum Baba RM35 I ordered was equally splendid.

You would need a extra stomach for this because Brasserie Fritz’s take on the Rum Baba was surprisingly huge! Each half was almost hand-size big but fortunately, very light and airy and soaked up the syrup and rum well enough. Surrounding it was stewed pineapple, pineapple compote and crème chibouste.

What’s even more amazing is that you get to decide how much rum you want in your rum baba! The rum bottles were left on my table as I dug through the moist cake. Alcoholics are gonna be on cloud’s nine.

Gin and Tonic was decent.

It was a lovely dinner. Would love to try their breakfast but I slept through the morning the next day and had to head straight for the airport.

Hotel guests can enjoy 10% off total bill at Brasserie Fritz too!
