Famous Burger & Lobster at Resort World Genting, SkyAvenue Mall, Worth Queueing

Burger & Lobster is the brainchild of four school mates in London. Following the restaurant’s opening at Resort World Genting, it has drawn mixed reviews from patrons on all sides as opposed to the seemingly endless queues snaking throughout the night.

The selling point here and what everyone comes for, is the range of lobster dishes that you can possibly find on the menu. Divided into three sections, there are the Burgers, Wild Live Lobsters and Lobster Rolls that would make you pull your hair while making a choice.

Burger & Lobster does a mean burger with the B&L Burger RM138, where lobster meats are blended into the beef patty, slapped with lettuce and drizzled in their tasty tarragon and truffle sauce. Looking for classic burgers with no frills? The Original RM88 and The Mayfair RM68 will satisfy the bun-cheese-beef-lettuce-tomato-pickles-onion-bun lovers.

As for the Lobster Rolls, they are served in a chill form in Burger & Lobster’s signature toasted brioche roll and comes in three types of sauces – Chilli, Japanese Mayonnaise and Seven Spices sauce.

But since I was there, I decided to go for the whole lobsters.

I had my sights set on the Wild Live Lobsters where I could choose to have the Canadian lobster steamed or grilled. Reminiscent of our local chilli crab, I spotted the Chili Lobster RM175 on the menu, a very much asian-centric dish featuring claypot-styled lobster cooked in chilli sauce.

I opt for The Original RM155 and was served a giant grilled lobster split in half, flanked by a bucket of skinny saltish fries, tangy salad, and a wondrous saucer full of their famous Lemon and Garlic Butter sauce.

Portion was generous and the lobster size was not scrimped upon. I was told that it was a 500-600 gram lobster, and already there were a lot of meats I could pull from its shell. Even the claws contained meat lumps that I did not hesitate to scrap clean.

First bite into the lobster flesh, and all skepticism I had of the bad taste, quality and blah were thrown out of the window. The meat was tender yet crunchy and nothing chewy nor dry. Dunk a portion into the much-anticipated sauce and my life felt complete from the light coating of smooth creaminess and tangy kiss on the lobster meat.

The salad was refreshing with a touch of acerbity. It made a good complementing side.

Really, I have absolutely no qualms about this. Maybe taste could be subjective or I was just lucky to get a good portion that day. Or it simply wasn’t bad to start with. The grilled lobster had satisfied my stomach considerably and the accompaniments were equally supportive. It only added up to SGD 52.33 for a whole live lobster grilled for me in a restaurant.

Anyway, I have heard from sources that Singapore’s getting/have gotten the franchise too. Let’s all wait and see if the price and quality and portion is going to match…

Meanwhile, I should probably start planning my next trip to Resort World Genting to reunite with those lobsters again.
