Kin Dee Restaurant, Phuket – Live Seafood like Blood Cockles, Clams and Crabs in Mai Khao

Kin Dee Restaurant is located in the Mai Khao area and about 20 minutes by car from Phuket International Airport. The restaurant is rather secluded and surrounded by greenery and a small parking lot.

Service is commendable with very friendly and caring staffs.

The menu offers a wide variety of Thai specialties, from tom yum soup and appetisers to curries, omelettes, various seafood dishes, stir-fried vegetables, noodles and rice.

Live seafood (i.e. crabs, clams and cockles) is cooked upon order.

There are signatures like the Kin Dee’s Volcano Egg THB 270 served in a hotpot, Crab Meat Curry THB 380, Sea Grape with Shrimps THB 180 and Kin Dee Salad THB 180.

There are three types of soup available – Tom Yum Soup (Creamy or Clear), Po Taek Shipwreck Soup and Turmeric Chicken Clear Soup (THB 160 Small, THB 320 Medium, THB 480 Large), in your choice of spiciness.

I opt for the creamy seafood Tom Yum Soup in Thai taste. Soup is well-seasoned with generous ingredients. There are huge slabs of fish, some prawns and squids.

Some highlights at Kin Dee Restaurant include the Steamed Blood Cockles THB 190 and Steamed Special Clams THB 159. Fresh, plump and juicy, these are so delicious that a second serving is warranted. The sauce that accompanies it is spicy and tangy.

For crabs, there is a choice of Blue Swimmer Crab or Black Crab, cooked in either Black Pepper Sauce or Thai Curry Powder. The meat is soft and delicate while the sauce tasted quite mild.

Round off the meal with a thirst-quenching Coconut THB 70.
