Yu Zhong Bu Tong 鱼众不同, Food Republic, Wisma Atria – Spicy Poached Fish Soup in a Food Court

For those who love fish soup, you are in for a treat!

Yu Zhong Bu Tong 鱼众不同 offers the popular poached fish soup in four tantalising flavours – Spicy, Sauerkraut, Tomato and Collagen.

The pricing depends on the choice of fish, i.e. Seabass $12.80 and Grouper $16.80. The fish are also sustainably and locally farmed so you can be assured of the freshness.

There are currently three outlets – Wisma Atria, JEM and Woodleigh Mall. I having been gracing the outlet at Wisma Atria, inside Food Republic, for the past year. While prices have increased since I first tried it, the quality has been great throughout, though slightly inconsistent in terms of spiciness and the numbing sensation.

It used to be more than half an hour’s wait during lunch time. Fortunately, nowadays the queue has moved faster.

The menu also offers Chinese-style starters, green mussels and sides to add into the fish soup.

The Spicy Poached Fish Soup $12.80 comes with a choice of two sides and a bowl of rice. I have always had it with Enoki Mushroom and silken Tofu. Some other sides to choose from include Pine Mushrooms, Chinese Lettuce, Glass Noodles and Tomatoes.

The soup can be quite spicy even for myself who can handle very spicy food. You can see from the sheer amount of dried chilli and chilli oil added! There are also lots of peppercorns and chopped onions. It was usually moderately numbing.

The fish is fresh and succulent. For the quality, one can expect the price as such.
