Gaku Sushi Bar (Downtown East) – New modern Japanese Restaurant & Bar with great menu variety

Suki Group’s newest brand, Gaku Sushi Bar, opens on 1st December 2020 at E!Avenue, Downtown East. The modern Japanese Fusion restaurant offers a unique three-in-one concept, where diners can choose to sit at the bar, lounge or main dining area. The lounge definitely looks very comfy with the cushy sofa and spaciousness. Besides, the menu features a variety of Japanese delights like Sashimi, Sushi, Maki, Donburi, Pasta and Yakimono which you can order and dine in any part of the restaurant.

Menu

What stood out at Gaku Sushi Bar the most were the sushi and sashimi.

Get the Sushi Platter ($35 for six, $43 for ten) and Sashimi Platter ($38 for three kinds; $68 for six kinds) and let the chef serves his signatures.

Our Sushi Platter comprised of vibrant, appetising-looking gems which include the Grilled Unagi, Scallop, Amaebi and Mentaiko Egg.

We also had the classic Sashimi pieces – King Salmon, Bluefin Tuna and Swordfish – all of which were fresh, fatty and tender.

Another favourite of mine was the Kanpachi Ceviche $16. The salad stole the limelight for its tangy, sweet and spicy dressing, complemented with a mix of other crunchy and earthy greens.

If you are in for a little spice, the Spicy King Salmon Maki $5.50 comes with spicy mentaiko sauce.

For mains, the Angel Hair Truffle Pasta with Hokkaido Scallop $25 and Abalone and Crabmeat Chahan $22 are some of chef’s recommendations.

The chilled pasta is possibly one of the more popular items here, featuring mouth-watering ingredients like truffle, Ikura and succulent scallops – the combination that would get anyone hooked onto the dish.

The Chahan (Japanese fried rice) is served in a huge portion, hence good for sharing if you are ordering some other sides as well. I like that it is eggy and I could almost taste the wok-hei in it too. Nonetheless, I thought the rice could be more flavourful.

The Gaku Fried Chicken $16 had a light crispy skin layer which I particularly enjoyed but the meat was slightly tough.

Complete your meal with a piping hot bowl of Asari Miso $8 and dessert too.
