Seoul Yummy – All-Spicy Menu with Stews, Mapo Tofu, Dumplings & Fried Chicken

Those of you who have heard or participated in last July’s Level 5 Dak Bokkeum Tang (Spicy Braised Chicken Stew) challenge at Seoul Yummy would have experienced for yourself that spiciness is taken seriously here.

No doubt for fiery eaters, this is another hot opportunity to get your tastebuds excited with the new Seoul Spicy Menu. A total of 12 dishes, including stews, are fired up for this limited time period promotion until 30 June 2019. Not for the faint-hearted, you can choose your level of spiciness – Level One is labelled as Wound Level, followed by Level Two’s Serious Injury Level and Level Three’s Coma Level (for stews).

Seoul Yummy is one of my favourite Korean casual dining restaurants. Besides their kimchi side dish and kimchi stew that I particularly adore, the various hotpot stews are must-tries too. Speaking of which, the Seoul Spicy Menu offers an all-spicy selection with two types of stews – Dak Bokkeum Tang $26.80 and Seafood Jjamppong $28.80.

The Dak Bokkeum Tang comes with chunky chicken parts, ramen, carrots and potatoes drenched in red spicy soup. We tried the level one which I thought was manageable while some found it spicy.

The soup from the Seafood Jjamppong had a tinge of sweetness from the seafood cooked in it, which subtly balanced off the spiciness. Also at level one, this was more palatable and tastier.

There was a medley of clams, mussels, prawns, squid rings alongside korea-imported Jjolmyon and vegetables.

Side dishes had me spoilt for choice. (We had all at level one spiciness.)

The Korean Fire Mapo Tofu $6.80 was supernaturally soft and blanketed by a layer of red chilli oil, minced meats bits and onion sprinkles. It wasn’t the spiciest, nonetheless.

Hands up to the Fire Fried Chikin $6.80 and Fire Chicken Wings $7.80 with each bite of the fried skin exploding into a triumphant crunch. These were timely bombs which hit us with some sweetness then a surprising spiciness and stubborn tickling on the tongue.

Well-received dishes were the Kimchi Dumplings with Jjamppong Mayo Sauce $7.80 and Chicken Dumplings with Fire Sauce $6.80. The former was fried perfectly with moist juicy fillings. They were addictive and made me want to pair with a glass of soju.

Personally, I thought that the Fire Japchae $11.80 was the spiciest among all the level one dishes while the Fire Rice with Chicken $11.80 came last in spiciest but was equally pleasant-tasting. The chicken was just nicely tenderised.

There is also an ongoing hotpot buffet promotion with a free-flow drinks and salad counter.
