Originated from Kuala Lumpur, the highly popular Dai Tao Lala Pot 大头啦啦煲 has finally opened a new outlet at Mount Austin in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

It operates daily from 5PM to as late as 3AM. Just half an hour in and the restaurant is full-house. There are seats indoors and outdoors. The indoor temperature feels alright but it can get quite hot with the hotpot boiling in front of you.

Two soup bases are available – Dai Tao Signature Soup RM38 (with 1KG of clams) and Pork Stomach Soup with White Peppercorns RM38, alongside a wide range of hotpot ingredients.

Menu

The Dai Tao Signature Soup is a must-order. The staff will serve it in a claypot over charcoal and cook the clams on the spot.

The clam soup is exceptional, definitely one of the best I have. The sweet, robust soup is flavoured with garlic, ginger and wine, making it really addictive to drink. Moreover, the clams are plump and juicy, without any brininess. Lovers of clams can add another plate of Sha Bai Lala (1KG) RM15.30 for ultimate enjoyment.

The claypot also doubles up as a hotpot. So, feel free to add more ingredients to enjoy the remaining precious soup. There are Australian Beef Slice RM20.90, Tiger Prawns RM22.90, Toman Fillet RM18.90, Thousand Layer Tripe RM18.20, Fu Zhou Fishball RM12.90, Big Head Bursting Ball RM10.90, Soybean Rolls RM10.50, Vegetables Platter RM16.80 and Quail Egg RM7.50, to name a few.

Condiments are self-service where you can mix your own dipping sauces.
